Every May, Brighton Festival hosts global and local artists for three weeks. We offer many events for free, making it easier for everyone to enjoy the benefits of diverse and enriching arts experiences and creative community activities. However, costs have risen hugely, we need to raise more funds.

    Situation

The arts foster well-being and vital skills in our fast-changing world. But many people cannot afford tickets. Schools face multiple challenges to engage pupils with the arts. Free access is key. 45% of the total Brighton Festival attendance happened at the 120 free events last year. Our organisation, like many others, faces financial strains: utility and staffing costs are up by 20-40%. It is much harder to offer free events. A reduced programme would significantly worsen community well-being.

    Solution

We are committed to offer a varied and thoughtful free programme throughout the city, including the Children’s Parade; Our Place community-led projects with East Brighton, Hangleton & Knoll and Moulsecoomb & Bevendean; professional large-scale installations and street theatre; literacy projects and free tickets via the Audience Club. But we need your support. We will also fundraise from other sources, and work with schools, partners and local authority to find ways of delivering the events.
