We are fundraising for our work supporting Syrian refugee children, internally displaced children and youth in the Kurdistan area of Iraq. Situation
The Kurdistan area in Iraq hosts 90% of the Syrian refugees and Internally displaced people that fled from the ISIS conflict. There remain huge barriers to return, particularly where communities have been destroyed. They face the impact of long term displacement, trauma, loss of education and hope. The economic crisis exacerbates the stress on families which can result in child protection issues such as child marriage, child labour, abuse and neglect.
Solution
Through running child friendly spaces meeting children's needs. We offer trauma recovery, child protection services, developmental support and educational opportunities for children. Our project complements the local school system and takes a holistic approach to addressing the needs of children in protracted emergency situations. We will also work to improve the long term structure of child protection by advocacy and giving training on child protection and foster care.
