Situation
Hospital patients and visitors can feel isolated and disconnected from the wider world, with hospital stays, especially for those in longer-term care, being lonely and anxious times. Elderly patients and those living with dementia can feel particularly vulnerable and confused. These factors together, allied of course with patients medical needs, are often greatly detrimental to health and wellbeing.
Solution
The links between music, particularly live music, and positive mental health & wellbeing are well documented and evidenced. Britten Sinfonia will work with patients and those in the hospital community over 12 visits with a duo of players and a facilitator, as well as 2 visits with a larger quintet ensemble. Over this residency we will bring people together, enhance communication, reduce stress and isolation, bring world class live music, unlock memories, and support allied health professionals.
