Up to 70% of people in sub-Saharan Africa rely on small-scale farming for their survival. Up to 1 in 5 of them are hungry. Why? Food production is held back by inefficient farming practices and lack of access to the right materials, especially good quality seed. Changing weather patterns and increased periods of drought in parts of Africa such as Ethiopia are having a devastating impact on farmers harvests, worsening an already challenging situation.

Self Help Africa train farmers to produce quality seed, which results in bigger harvests and fewer people facing hunger. Seed producers provide affordable, drought-tolerant varieties to other farmers enabling them to mitigate the worst effects climate change. This will improve nutrition, increase incomes and strengthen community resilience, resulting in sustainable harvests for all.
