We will deliver 9 arts-based projects in Greater London that will transform young people’s understanding of domestic abuse and how to build healthy relationships. Using script-work, role play and drama games, young people will “rehearse” positive behaviours and feel empowered to seek support.

    Situation

16-24 year olds are at the highest risk of experiencing domestic abuse (ONS, 2022). Even with the new RHSE curriculum, only 46% of students feel confident of who to talk to if they experience abuse and only 52% felt they had an understanding of healthy and unhealthy relationships (SafeLives, 2022). Greater London has one of the highest rates of peer-on-peer abuse in the UK, accounting for half of all child sexual exploitation cases in the area (MOPAC, 2016).

    Solution

We will prepare and empower up to 765 young people to prevent abuse in their relationships by delivering 9 arts-based projects. Each project will engage 25 participants over 2 days with drama activities to understand healthy and unhealthy behaviours. Activities will be interspersed by discussions between facilitators and participants. Each project will conclude with participants developing performances and/or creative resources to share what they’ve learned with up to 60 of their peers.
