    Situation

Arts and creativity provide impactful opportunities for young people to express themselves, develop confidence and improve wellbeing. With increasing school cuts to arts education, young people are facing a lack of opportunity and an increase in mental health illness. In Haringey, where 41% of children live in poverty and there are higher rates of serious mental illness than the London average, opportunities which empower, broaden aspirations and support young people’s development are vital.

    Solution

We will provide free weekly circus workshops to 80+ young people (aged 4-18) in the east of Haringey, where there is the greatest need. Participants will work with professional circus artists to learn skills including acro-balance, juggling, stilts and hula hooping, as well as accessing other development opportunities. Our sessions are inclusive, anti-bullying and anti-racist, ensuring groups are hugely diverse, with 75% participants from the global majority and many identifying as LGBTQ+.
