More whales are killed each year by Norwegian whalers than in Japan or Iceland. Yet Norway’s whaling seems to slip under the radar. Change must come from within, so we will build and support a wave of change in Norway, inspiring Norwegian people to bring an end to the hunts.

    Situation

The whaling ban is arguably the greatest conservation victory of all time. But in a handful of countries, whales are still hunted. Norwegian whalers kill more than 500 whales every year and this must stop. Whales are intelligent, thinking, feeling beings who play an important role in overcoming the biggest issues we face: the climate crisis and the destruction of nature. A healthy planet needs a healthy ocean, and that means more whales, not fewer.

    Solution

Only a tiny number of people in Norway are involved in whale hunts. Whaling is not an everyday concern for most Norwegians, and foreign condemnation hasn’t stopped the slaughter. It’s time for a fresh approach. We will grow public awareness of whaling and an appreciation of whales as our allies in tackling the climate and biodiversity emergencies. We’ll support and nurture grassroots activism and opposition within Norway, building the networks and connections that will bring change.
