    Situation

There is a societal idea that Black Britons must adopt a traditional and constricted way of being. There are preconceptions of Black British artists seeing them as 'exotic', less academic and not creating work of high quality. Space is limited for Black British artists to come together to present, focus on and develop their work and audiences. There is a huge pool of talented Black British artists whose voices are unheard and whose art is on the periphery of the mainstream arts programming.

    Solution

We will create a space which champions, elevates, celebrates and gives a voice to unheard Black British artists. Curated by high profile Black British artists and academics, the Festival will challenge & resist preconceptions through art, performance and discussion with Black British artists at the centre of its programme. This will create a space for joy, reflection, & conversation for 10,000 people over 3 days, celebrating Black British artists, activists, and thinkers.
