At the UK Wild Otter Trust we are raising funds for the continuation of our work to rescue, rehabilitate and ultimately release the otters that come into our care. We receive orphaned and/or injured otters which require specialist care until they can return to the wild.

Situation
The Eurasian otter is still categorised as near-threatened on the IUCN red list of threatened species, although numbers in the UK have increased since receiving legal protection and the banning of industrial chemicals in the 1970's and onwards they still face many threats. Threats such as habitat destruction and road collisions can leave otter cubs orphaned requiring support to succeed into adulthood.
Solution
We take in orphaned and/ or injured otters and aim to rehabilitate them in order to release them back into the wild. We have created a specialist rehabilitation centre comprising of 19 enclosures, 2 cub rooms, a cub hospital and treatment room, it is the largest specialist centre in the UK giving us capacity to care for up to 42 animals if full. We have had many successes and had a total of 19 releases in the year 2023 and 57 calls from members of the public with concerns about an otter.
