“Inclusivity was made to be normal. Inclusivity is important. Inclusivity is life-changing.” All In! participant 2023 National Youth Ballet believes that ballet can be for everyone. All In! inclusive ballet is sparking a sea-change in perceptions of what ballet can be and who it is for.

    Situation

Disabled and neurodivergent dancers are under-served by ballet and have historically been excluded from high-quality performing arts experiences. 11% of NYB 9-18 year-olds identified as disabled and/or neurodivergent in 2023 (7% in 2022) but there is no specific ballet programme for early career dancers, teachers or choreographers, to develop more inclusive practice. Nationally, there is a lack of established development routes for disabled dancers and we need more inclusive ballet opportunities

    Solution

All In! pushes the boundaries of the perception of ballet. Working with inclusive dance experts, young dancers with and without disabilities create and perform together and are empowered to learn to work differently, nurturing talent, transforming perceptions and smashing expectations of audiences. Working with Ambassador Joe Powell-Main (professional ballet dancer and wheelchair-user), we will revive Romeo & Juliet for public audience at Sadler’s Wells to showcase the impact of inclusive work.
