Our sensory room is a magical space which stimulates all the senses and promotes movement and balance. We are seeking funding to upgrade the lights and replace the computer operating system so we can improve more lives with sensory therapy, including babies, toddlers, teens and people with dementia.
The sensory room has been in constant use since 2013. Funding will enable us to replace and upgrade specialist equipment to create a space which is tailored for mental wellbeing. This will help us provide a therapeutic solution to ease the problems experienced by existing and new beneficiaries, in particular people with dementia as they face daily challenges which overload them with sensory stimulation, resulting in confusion, agitation and isolation.
We will provide gentle stimulation of the senses to ease feelings of frustration or agitation and to promote positive mood using sensory stimuli which are evocative and age appropriate. Research shows that gentle stimulation of the senses in a controlled setting can enhance feelings of comfort and wellbeing, improve mood, relieve stress and help improve communication and memory. Sessions will promote social interaction and create opportunities to reminisce and experience mindful wellbeing.
