    Situation

A touring inequity for both music & theatre means swathes of the UK "miss out": Midlands (except Birmingham/Warwick), N East (except York), N West (except Manchester) & most of Wales & Scotland. Touring contributes enormously to music education: so lack of touring means young people are missing out in accessing life-changing participative opportunities too. “thank you for coming to Cumbria: we feel left out by touring companies" audience feedback

    Solution

No one else is tackling the touring inequity. The Telling's RESIDENCY MODEL uniquely turns the way touring works on its head: we take control, rather than waiting passively for promoters to book us in places where lots happens. We do this by: a)booking venues ourselves b)working w partner arts orgs/venues/Music Hubs in each city b)mix of free workshops in SCHOOLS & for ANYONE (no expertise needed) & shows where old music (cf folk/world), history & drama collide: “mesmerising" The Guardian
