Situation
Palestinians are allocated 6.25% of the state budget, yet comprise 20% of the population - 25% of those are children. $192 is spent per Palestinian child per year compared to an average of $1,100 for other children. They are 3 times less likely to go to university, and are not eligible for scholarships, student dormitories or loans, due to not having served in the military. Palestinian students in Israel represent just 11.2% of 1st degree students, 6.1% of Masters, & only 3.5% of Ph.D students.
Solution
There is a link between completed years of education and participation in the labour force, especially among females. Employment helps Palestinian graduates to lift themselves, their families and their communities out of poverty. The GF has already supported more than 1,600 students with tuition fees and mandatory workshops to meet the many challenges of studying as a minority and strongly increase likelihood of successful completion of studies. They also learn to give back through volunteering.
