    Situation

Refugees face an unemployment rate over 4x higher than the UK average due to many barriers, including: CV gaps due to lengthy asylum processes, lack of familiarity with the UK job market, misplaced employer perceptions about hiring refugees and difficulty getting qualifications recognised. In Manchester this problem is especially acute. Upon enrolment 42% of Manchester clients were homeless and 83% were unemployed – the highest rate of unemployment across the 3 regions Breaking Barriers works.
