In 2022, food and fuel inflation in rural Sri Lanka surged by over 90%, leading to empty shelves, crop fertilizer scarcity, economic hardship, and food insecurity. Families still struggle to feed themselves, resulting in poor nutrition and skipping meals. This harms children's health, causing fainting through serious malnutrition, disengagement, school dropout, and resulting in increased admissions to childcare institutions. This impacts the future generation and the country's development.

A project providing nutritious, daily mid-meals at a school in the poorest area of rural Sri Lanka, will alleviate some of the acute difficulties disadvantaged families are facing during the country’s ongoing economic crisis. Staff, parents and 158 children between the ages of 5-18 will receive healthy food, nutrition training, and agricultural crop planting training in the school fields to provide sustainability.
