CHIPS aims to bring about peace and reconciliation in areas of conflict or tension through long-term, grassroots, practical, peacemaking projects. Since 2014, CHIPS has been peacemaking in Brixton, supporting young people with practical activities that address the drivers of conflict.

In 2023 the Lambeth crime rate has been 11% higher than London and 26% higher than national data. Serious Youth Violence is a major issue in the borough, particularly for young people living on estates in Brixton. The main risk factors that increase the likelihood of involvement include school exclusions, SEND, mental health problems, behavioural problems, peer relationships and income inequality (exacerbated by the cost-of-living crisis).

CHIPS takes a holistic approach by working with young people, families, the wider community and statutory services to address the problems outlined above. We provide regular youth drop-in spaces and activities that provide a safe environment for young people to hang out and receive mentorship from our youth workers. We provide family and parental support to help parents be equipped to support their young person and interact with statutory services to find the best way to support the family.
