Changing weather patterns are making life even harder for farmers in Togo. Lendwithcare partners with Deki to provide loan support to hard-working women in Togo, many of whom are small-scale farmers facing these challenges. This Christmas, you can support Lendwithcare and Deki to empower small-scale female farmers to face the effects of climate change and extreme poverty with resilience. Every donation will help to teach farmers sustainable agricultural management practices, giving farming cooperatives the knowledge to improve their productivity and protect their crops from changing weather patterns.

Situation
In Togo, rural communities are bearing the brunt of climate change. Temperatures rising, irregular rainfall and land degradation are major contributors causing drought and flooding in the region. This increases the likelihood of crops belonging to small-scale female farmers being damaged, or lost completely. Changing weather patterns coupled with unsustainable farming practices and population growth put considerable pressure on Togo’s ecosystems. In turn, this can push subsistence farmers into poverty further.
Solution
Lendwithcare partners with Deki in Togo to directly support hard-working women with loans. The Seeds of Change project will help small-scale female farmers to form self-led cooperatives. These groups will be trained by Deki in sustainable farming techniques and land management, helping them to become more resilient to changing weather patterns. Seeds of Change will also provide the women with business skills and financial literacy training, as well as family planning and women’s rights support.
