Those living in poverty are more likely to develop mental health problems than their peers, and least likely to have access to effective support. Shout’s data shows that demand for our service is highest from the most deprived regions of the UK and that 25% of texters under the age of 18 receive free school meals. In almost half of the conversations Shout takes about the cost of living crisis, texters have suicidal thoughts as they struggle with the situation.

People who are in financial difficulty are specifically seeking out accessible, text-based mental health support from Shout due to the sensitive nature of their concerns. Our service is the only one in the UK to offer support that is silent, anonymous and available 24/7 - and is always free to those who need it. By donating to Shout’s Big Give campaign, you’ll be ensuring we’re here this winter to support a further 5,000 people - support that could be life-saving.
