Situation
Child homelessness in Bolivia is primarily the result of poverty and domestic violence. The children who live on the streets and in the drainage canals of Santa Cruz are subject to ongoing hopelessness, violence and abuse. Christmas is a very difficult time of the year for those who have no family and nowhere to turn for relief except drugs and alcohol. The children who leave the streets to come live in our homes often have never had a Christmas present until they join our OpRest family.
Solution
We will make the Christmas season memorable for those children living in our care by providing presents, special meals and fun outings - luxuries we usually can't afford. For those children still on the streets, we will offer food, small street parties, and lots of unconditional love. There is no official help available to these young people around the Christmas holiday; they know us and trust us, so we are who they turn to when they suffer, especially around Christmas.
