Children and young people today are contending with multiple challenges, accentuated by the impact of the pandemic. Education was disrupted and has not recovered. Persistent school absence has more than doubled, behaviour is more unsettled and socialisation has been delayed. One in six 7 - 16 year olds are estimated to have a mental health disorder. Children and young people need strategies and support to manage the challenges they face.
SparkFish has one-to-one mentoring programmes for young people facing acute challenge, but our Think! Spaces are available to all young people in the school. They provide time for quiet personal reflection and encourage the development of helpful practices to support their positive well-being. This includes learning ways to be kind to themselves and others, and ways to understand and handle their emotions and show empathy. These special spaces are greatly valued by students and staff alike.
