    Situation

Successive reports into care experienced young people identify the employment challenges and training gaps that many experience (19-21-year-olds leaving care are three times less likely to be in education, employment or training than other young people their age) and The Independent Review of Children’s Social Care identified “quality education” and “fulfilling work” as two of its “missions.” We've been supporting journalists for 25 years and we've devised Journalism Cares to address this need.

    Solution

As an experienced and highly effective charity delivering career enhancing training and support the Trust has developed “Journalism Cares” to develop the skills and employability of people with care experience who want to pursue a career in broadcast or print journalism. Evidence gathered on the impact of our previous schemes tells us that participants finish our programmes with increased experience, knowledge about journalism and increased social and professional capital.
