Older people, those living with dementia, and their carers, often lose their connection with others and with their community. They feel isolated, lonely and cut off from their community and have poor mental wellbeing as a result. Many no longer have access to a garden or can no longer maintain a garden. The allotment will provide a suitable open, accessible and safe outdoor community space for people living with dementia and their carers to meet new people and socialise with others.

The benefits of outdoor nature-based activities for people living with dementia are well documented, including improvements in emotional state, physical health, verbal expression, memory and attention, awareness (multi-sensory engagement and joy), wellbeing, independence, self-esteem and control, social interaction and a sense of belonging.
