We need to raise £4,000 to support the ever-increasing demand on our Young Carers support service across Wiltshire. A young carer is a person under the age of 18 who looks after a family member or loved one with an illness, disability, mental health condition or addiction.

We currently hold open cases for Wiltshire young carers, of which 14% are recognised as the most vulnerable with some in the safeguarding system. As well as the pressures of their caring role and having to balance their own school and relationship pressures along side the additional caring role, the recent pandemic has increased stress and worry. A national survey carried out by Carers Trust, showed 58% of young carers were caring for longer, 40% said their mental health was worse.

We have been the primary Young Carers Support Service in Wiltshire for 25 years. Our support model includes a trusteed young carers support worker, one to one mentoring and coaching, access to respite activities during school holidays and regular young carers clubs, referral to other partners including specialist counselling which we purchase as part of our support offer, and family and school advocacy.
