Situation
Although CRS provides a low cost and high quality education, the most vulnerable are not always able to attend. Drop out rates for education are high in Guinea and affect girls the most. Some families can not afford the fees, some do not to prioritise education while others choose not to educate their girls. Increases in the food, fuel and rising rental cost in West Africa have had a massive impact on the social and economic health of students and their ability to pay for their education.
Solution
Providing scholarships for the most vulnerable students lifts the burden of paying from parents, promoting the attendance of female, orphaned and other vulnerable students, while supporting regular attendance. Our scholarship scheme is in its eighth year now and has given stability to the education of the students, allowing them to focus on the task of learning and their families to support their dreams without sacrificing food and shelter.
