For 13 years, Makomborero has been changing the lives of gifted students from very disadvantaged backgrounds in Zimbabwe. We aim to see 1000s of girls acquire an education and be supported and empowered at every stage of their high school and university studies.

Situation
Due to the economic situation in Zimbabwe, girls face incredible pressure to drop out of school. Girls' education is often not a priority, and they feel they have no hope beyond leaving school before they are 15 years old and getting married. This has resulted in some girls in poor communities seeing no purpose in education. They are highly prone to being recruited into prostitution rings or being taken in as second wives by much older, financially well-off men.
Solution
We focus on 4 areas: • Girl Child Mentorship - Identify and mentor vulnerable girls aged 13–15 years; • Science Lab - Provide a fully kitted lab to allow girls aged 15-17 years to participate in Biology and Physics experiments; • A-Level Scholarship - Award A-Level scholarships to 16-19 year old girls from disadvantaged backgrounds; • University Grant Scholarship - Support young ladies aged 18-27 through university by giving grants, free purpose-built accommodation and financial stipends.
