We support local unpaid family carers of all ages. 700+ of our 11,000 registered carers are between 4 and 17 and care 24/7 for parents, siblings and family members meaning they miss out on far too much. The YMCA Young Carers Festival is a chance for young carers to experience a weekend of joy.

    Situation

Young unpaid family carers have very little or no time away from their family care responsibilities. Lack of funding and resources since the covid pandemic has not allowed Carers in Bedfordshire to take a group of local carers to the festival for some years. We know how much individuals benefit from attending the world largest young carers festival.

    Solution

The YMCA Young Carers Festival weekend is the world's largest event for young carers and provides opportunities for young people to enjoy a break, have fun, make new friends and have their voices heard on issues that affect them. Consultation with young carers at the event has resulted in two changes in legislation to help support their needs and those of their families. We want our local young carers voices to be heard. We want to make a difference in their young lives.
