GWNS is a grassroots charity which provides accommodation, advocacy and support for homeless people through our winter night shelter and year-round Day Centre. We hope to raise £20,000 to fund our Day Centre activities including mental health support, 1:1 casework and advoacy.

Homelessness is often a symptom of many contributing factors. Relationship breakdowns, poor health, eviction and employment are some of the reasons people end up sleeping on the streets. Particularly without the stability of a home, accessing statutory support is often overwhelming, complex and a very long process. Many people who attend our services have given up hope and simply don’t know where to start to get their life back on track.

Our Day Centre provides an accessible one-stop-shop for the homeless or those at risk of homelessness. We provide Employability Coaching, Housing Advice, Welfare Rights Support, a GP advice service and counselling alongside wellbeing activities e.g. Cooking Classes and gardening. Anyone can simply walk in, and pets are welcome. Once people’s situations have been resolved, we encourage ongoing engagement to reduce the risk of people falling back through the net and to be part of a community.
