Research finds that on average, families spend £250 monthly solely on travel costs to get to hospital. Any child diagnosed with cancer in the North East & Cumbria must travel to Newcastle for treatment - a distance of up to 100 miles for some patients. When they get to the hospital, they will be faced with parking costs. Add food costs from the hospital cafe & sometimes even hotel bills, you can begin to imagine the financial strain that is placed on a family in their darkest hour.

Children's Cancer North would like to provide each family with £250 when their child is first diagnosed, to begin to help them through the first couple of weeks when their world is turned upside down.
