We connect groups of young people with their older neighbours in retirement homes. Partnering with schools, youth groups and housing associations, our intergenerational workshops bring people of different ages together in meaningful ways so that they can learn from each other and build friendships.

Situation
We live in an increasingly disconnected society, with children and over 65s the most cut off from other age groups (Social Integration Commission, 2015). This has been exacerbated by the pandemic, with many opportunities for contact between old and young lost. Older people that have little contact with children and young people are at an increased risk of loneliness and isolation. Meanwhile, children that live far away from grandparents miss out on the benefits of intergenerational connections.
Solution
We bring people together around fun, purposeful activities. Older people in retirement homes get the chance to volunteer and stay connected to their community. Young people also develop positive relationships with older people and learn from them. In an increasingly fractured society, we help people of all ages realise how much they have in common. Last year, 80% of older people felt happier after attending a session and 100% of teachers said they would recommend the programme.
