In step with the speed of change in UK culture & society, we seek better diversity in our audiences/participants through cross-genre, themed, live/digital performances, recordings, workshops & dementia cafes, showing a different vision of what an inclusive orchestra of the 21st century should be.

    Situation

The UK classical orchestral sector is associated with wealth, privilege & perceived elitism surrounded by a culture that is resistant to change, with a lack of diverse audiences & workshop participants, many of whom feel that classical music is not for them. With public funding for the Arts, & music in particular, under such severe pressure, marginalised, rural, & state school communities have limited engagement, compounded by their own socio-economic issues.

    Solution

Through high-quality, live & digital concert programmes & recordings that straddle multiple art forms, with guest artists from differing genres, supported by free online education/dementia-friendly resources & £5 tickets for Under 35’s. By delivering inspirational workshops that are free to recipients, in both regional state schools & through Café Muse (our dementia-friendly participative café for marginalised/rural communities) with regional partners.
