    Situation

Transitioning from childhood to adulthood for people with learning disabilities comes with numerous challenges such as an expectation of increased independence and decreased state support. There are not enough opportunities for the children we support to test their boundaries and challenge themselves in a safe environment and so arrive into adulthood without the necessary skills and confidence to live free and independent lives.

    Solution

Our away week aims to create a place in time for the children we support to grow as people and push what they and their families believed was historically possible. They will engage with high-risk activities such as abseiling, try new foods and interact in a social setting away from their families. The children we support learn behaviours and coping mechanisms through these experiences that they carry with them for life, ultimately leading to increased independence in adulthood.
