Our project will provide high-quality dance classes in care homes and hospices across the North, ensuring that more people have access to art and creative activity that can benefit their physical, mental and social wellbeing.

Research shows that access to the arts in Care Homes makes residents healthier and happier. And we know that dancing can improve quality of life, support physical and mental health and improve social connections. However, individuals who live in Care Homes don’t always have access to high quality dance activity. This can be due to a lack of understanding about integration and inclusion for individuals, a lack of awareness of physical needs and stigma surrounding some health conditions.

Ascendance’s HYBRID Care Home programme (in person and digital streaming) provides creative, transformative, and restorative dance experiences for residents across Yorkshire who may not normally be able to access and engage with the benefits of dance. We pride ourselves on our commitment to inclusion, ensuring anyone who wants to can engage with us and experience the wide-ranging benefits dance brings (increased wellbeing, physical improvements in coordination, mobility and balance etc.).
