Our vision for Wandsworth is #everychildareader. We help young children start school ready to read. We help primary-age children develop a love of reading, while building reading skills and confidence. We encourage and equip parents to support their children’s learning at home.

Situation
The pandemic is still negatively impacting children's development, especially in language and literacy. The Cost of Living crisis has reduced parents' capacity to support at home. And disadvantaged families are most affected. Poor reading skills in childhood generally result in limited literacy as adults, bringing well-recognised risks of unemployment, low wages, obesity and depression. We want to support children's early literacy and reading in Wandsworth, and equip parents to support at home.
Solution
We give parents the motivation, skills and confidence to support their children’s reading at home. We introduce babies and toddlers to vital early literacy skills - running classes, distributing reading packs and delivering helpful messaging and advice. We build partnerships with local schools and charities to give children, regardless of background, the opportunity to have frequent positive reading experiences - training and supporting a team of committed volunteer reading supporters.
