Children arriving in London who have fled war & persecution face complex challenges including insecure housing situations, economic deprivation, parental mental health issues, and lack of any local support network. Music & creative activity has been proven to have a profound impact on wellbeing, and can foster a wide range of skills and connections that can improve these young people’s lives. However, 95% of our participants do not have access to these kind of opportunities without our support.

Fairbeats will run free, inclusive music-making sessions with children who attend Action for Refugees in Lewisham; giving them access to a creative life in a safe and secure setting, encouraging self-expression, and helping them to build relationships and skills that they can take into the rest of their lives. Our programmes have been shown to lead to improvements in mental health, confidence and an enhanced sense of belonging.
