Furnishing Futures is the first charity in the UK to create trauma-informed, fully furnished and decorated homes for women and children rehoused in empty social housing after domestic abuse. We believe every family deserves a safe, comfortable home, and no useable furniture should go to waste.

When women escape domestic violence and are rehoused, they are given empty social housing without flooring, white goods or furniture and have often left everything behind. In East London where we are based, half of all children live in poverty. Many women start again with nothing as less than 2% of social housing tenancies are furnished. For them, and the professionals who support them, there is nowhere else to turn to for help. Yet 22 million pieces of furniture are discarded annually in the UK

Furnishing Futures designs and installs beautiful, safe homes that make the most vulnerable women and children feel cared for. We take good quality furniture donated by the interiors industry and give everything a woman needs, at no cost to them. This helps break the cycle of poverty, boosts the confidence of disadvantaged women, and supports their mental and physical wellbeing. This prevents women from feeling they have to return to the perpetrator to meet their and their children's basic needs
