This campaign has now closed

Post-Covid, only 15% of prisons are running a full range of activities, meaning young prisoners have limited time out of cells, with little education or support. This has worsened issues (e.g. mental health) and stripped away hope. We want to expand our Hero’s Journey to reach more young prisoners.

    Situation

Whilst life outside of prison is free from Covid-19 restrictions, only 18 out of 122 prisons have returned to a ‘normal’ regime. This means many prisoners are still spending most of their days in their cells, with limited access to rehabilitation programmes. As a result, young adult prisoners have fewer possibilities post-release, their mental health has suffered, and many have lost hope. They need support now to realise their potential and build a positive future.

    Solution

Our Hero’s Journey programme helps restore young prisoners’ hope, and equips them with the skills and mindset needed to build a bright future away from crime. There is real appetite from young prisoners for this work: young people regularly give up their social time to take part in the programme - which last summer included choosing to leave an England World Cup match! In the coming year, we want to expand the Hero’s Journey to reach more young prisoners, including outside of London.
