We believe that no-one should have to sleep rough and that everyone should get the support they need. Recovery from a life on the streets can often be a long journey and taking the first step is daunting. The Street Engagement Team is there to listen and build trusting relationships.

    Situation

Everyone should have a place to call home. Sleeping rough can have a devastating impact on a person’s life. Compared to the general population, people living on the streets are: 17 times more likely to experience violence; at higher risk of health conditions and are 10 times more likely to die early. Recovering from a life on the street is often a long and difficult journey because the street population have been let down in the past.

    Solution

The Street Engagement Team support people to take the vital first step to recover from sleeping rough in London. They work with people where they are - on the streets. The Team helps people to move away from rough sleeping, changing their lives in the way that they want, and at their pace. Through listening and building trust they encourage those, who may be traumatised or have untreated physical or mental health conditions, to access life-saving help at our day centre in Westminster.
