Situation
Many women who contact our service do so as a result of being victims or survivors of domestic abuse. 42% of the 3,400 women we had contact with during 2022-23 had experience of domestic abuse in their relationships. Our local situation reflects the wider national situation where women are over represented as victims of this crime. In 73% of domestic abuse crimes recorded by police in England and Wales in 2020-21, the victim and survivor was a woman https://www.gov.uk/government/publications.
Solution
Our #IBelieveYou team is a small, qualified and dedicated team of staff who work to support victims and survivors throughout their journey however long this may take. Our offer to people who come to us for support is not time limited or restricted by any eligibility criteria, other than disclosing as a victim or survivor and asking for help. Staff include registered social workers, Independent Domestic Violence Advocates and staff with backgrounds in probation, housing, substance misuse etc.
