The partnership of Amina MWRC and Glasgow Women's Library brings focus awareness of family coercive control. In 2022, the Amina Helpline received 299 calls highlighting abuse experienced by BME women in Scotland living in extended family households. Domestic Abuse legislation currently only covers intimate partner violence, there is no recourse within the legislation for women experiencing abuse by their extended family.

A partnership series of workshops for BME community groups in Scotland, providing a safe space for women to explore experiences of intergenerational trauma due to extended family abuse. Workshops will provide case studies and real-life experiences illustrating the need for the definition of ‘domestic abuse’ to be extended to include extended family. The case studies will be used to create dynamic campaign material raising awareness of the impact of extended family abuse on BME women in Scotland.
