We want to reach more older isolated people by offering befriending with regular visits and/or phone calls from a friendly volunteer.
Loneliness and isolation in older people aged 65+ in Sheffield can have a significant impact on health and wellbeing as older people feel cut off from society. Many older people may not speak to anyone all week. There are 200 older people waiting for befriending.
Our Good Neighbours Scheme has friendly and dedicated staff and volunteers who will visit older people in their own homes on a weekly basis or speak to them on the phone. We focus on those older people who are unable to get out of their own homes through poor health and/or poor mobility as well as the many other factors that cause loneliness and loneliness and isolation such as the death of their partner and friends or no longer being the center of their family.
