    Situation

    Women's poverty and economic inequality. Women and external research tell us that the lack of affordable childcare, working conditions and lack of funding for social care all provide barriers to employment for women. The cost of living crisis, is highly gendered and intersectional: Women are more likely than men (22%:14%) to have persistent poverty/low income and Black and minoritised women are 40% more likely to be living in poverty and providing unpaid intergenerational care.

    Solution

    We are developing co-produced strategy with women in the community and women-led groups in Bristol to movement-build/secure greater investment in the caring economy, childcare/nursery care/social care/social care that includes supports all those delivering care/flexible working conditions. Investing 2% of GDP in the care industries would: Create up to 1.5 million UK jobs compared to 750,000 for equivalent investment in construction, Reduce the gender employment gap by up to 25%.
