This campaign has now closed

Following last year's successful campaign, we are again raising funds to pay for the clinical expertise and experience of Dr Jonathan Holme to work alongside our paramedic crew for another year, delivering the highest standard of care to our critically ill and injured patients.

    Situation

In the early days of air ambulances it was the speed of the aircraft in reaching a patient and transporting them to the nearest hospital that made the difference between life and death. Whilst this is still vitally important, it is now proven that the pre-hospital care patients receive at the scene can significantly improve their outcomes. This has led to the need for ever more specialised procedures and techniques, some of which can only be carried out by or under the supervision of a doctor.

    Solution

In 2022 our supporters raised sufficient funds to enable Dr Holme, an emergency medicine consultant at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, to provide Wiltshire Air Ambulance with two paid shifts per week for the whole of 2023. Already this is making a difference to our patients, as Dr Holme has delivered advanced interventions for critically ill and injured adults and children, including roadside anaesthetisation and pre-hospital blood transfusions. We aim to continue this throughout 2024.
