    Situation

Food Poverty. In the past 3 years, residents have faced difficulties feeding their families due to COVID, job losses, high utility costs, inflation—a cost of living crisis. This issue is particularly severe in our community & neighbouring area, ranking in the lowest 6% for deprivation according to 2020 census data. Resident survey revealed that 75% struggled to afford groceries, & an overwhelming 90% expressed keen-ness to use a Community Grocery. Ealing Foodbank was named the busiest in London.

    Solution

In partnership with The Message Trust, a Community Grocery operates out of a portable cabin, serving the community 3 days a week. For just £5 a year, a resident becomes a member & can gain access to 2 weekly shops priced at £4 per shop. Each shop provides goods of their choice, saving up to £20. Beyond food, members are offered a diverse range of free support, such as job clubs, money management guidance, healthy cooking classes, an after-school kids club, English language courses & much more.
