We are in a climate and ecological emergency. Flood, drought and the loss of biodiversity are having an increasing impact on people's lives and the natural world. Britain is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world and has lost almost half its wildlife and plant species. Beavers can help but they were hunted to extinction 400 years ago. They need to be returned to Britain. People are increasingly disconnected from nature but suffering the impacts of an environment in crisis.

Beavers are ‘ecosystem engineers’; they build dams and canals to hold water in wetlands. This reduces the impact of flooding and drought and improves water quality. Beavers create a rich variety of habitats for a range of species which struggle to survive in the modern landscape. Insects, fish, birds and mammals all benefit. As well as helping solve these serious problems, the industrious, charismatic beaver powerfully reconnects people with the natural world.
