A girl’s education changes everything. An educated girl is healthier, safer and empowered to determine the course of her future. Your support will help provide a safe space for girls in the slums of Uganda to learn, share experiences, build resilience and go on to complete their secondary education.

Girls in Kawempe do the majority of unpaid care work, face economic insecurity & are at high risk of violence, exploitation & abuse. 75% of children here drop-out of primary school, but don’t have the skills needed for work, forcing girls into dangerous situations including sex work. Many girls didn't return to school after 2 years of pandemic closures. 60%+ of girls experienced sexual violence during lockdown & child motherhood soared. Child mothers face stigma and struggle to return to school.

We’ve developed a new catch-up education programme for out-of-school girls aged 10-15 (mostly child mothers and survivors of sexual violence). Run by specialist teachers, who cover literacy, numeracy, study & life skills alongside counselling and sexual/reproductive healthcare. Through close links with partner schools and engagement with caregivers we support girls to smoothly reintegrate into mainstream schools to complete their education.
