Disadvantaged young people were disproportionately affected by the pandemic in areas of education – often their only access to experience live theatre – and in their social interactions. The cost-of-living crisis has exasperated this – with a marked decline in visits to theatres due to escalating ticket prices and staffing pressures. Without these experiences, young people are missing out on developing valuable life skills and new and different ways of understanding people and the world.

Pilot Theatre’s new scheme, Just the Ticket, will help us to give tickets for young people in schools and community groups to see our shows who would otherwise be unable to come. Our shows often raise issues of social justice, identity, climate change and racism, with free online, accessible creative learning resources, giving the young people an opportunity to debate, discuss and learn as well as developing interest and confidence in further participation in the arts.
