Situation
In Zambia, Grade 7 girls drop out of school more than double the rate of boys; by Grade 11 girls drop out more than three times the rate of their male peers. Zambian women are severely underrepresented in the digital sector, especially in rural settings where access, cost, lack of skills and socio-cultural barriers limit girl’s ability to engage with technology. Adolescent girls in Zambia also remain at high risk of malnutrition, impacting growth, development, and maternal and child health.
Solution
Homework and literacy clubs - these twice-weekly extra-curricular sessions will ensure girls are keeping up with their assignments. Digital skills training - these weekly sessions will ensure that girls have the computer skills needed to continue their education, including an introduction to basic coding. Football training - these twice-weekly recreational sessions will be run by one of our coaches. Daily nutritious meal - all girls will receive a nutritious meal every day at after-school
