Can you imagine how upsetting it must be to feel like people are staring at you in the street, or struggling to understand what you are saying because of how you speak? 1 in 700 babies are born with a cleft lip and/or palate every year, many of whom go on to experience a lifetime of complex surgery, prejudice, bullying, isolation and difficulties coping in a variety of social settings including school, relationships and the work place.

Being part of a community where people ‘just get it’ is critical because the personal circumstances of people born with a cleft are unique and the issues are regularly misunderstood - CLAPA exists as the practical and emotional safety net our community needs. We are there from the moment of diagnosis with reassurance, information, and a welcoming community for families, children and adults born with a cleft. Our purpose is to ensure that no one affected by cleft goes through their journey alone.
