Situation
Music teaching is consistently being sidelined in education and the cost of living crisis further impacts this. All young people deserve to experience the joy and benefits of singing in a choir, but for many these opportunities are not accessible due to cost or lack of local provision. This means they miss out on opportunities to develop not only musical skills, but teamwork, confidence & concentration, which are instrumental in allowing young people to reach their potential.
Solution
LYC’s team of choral specialists make a real substantial change to the lives & ambitions of young Londoners. We now run 10 weekly choirs, working with nearly 500 young people from all over the capital each week. LYC Experience, our programme of outreach in schools and communities, worked with 1,200 young people in 2022/23 in 14 schools, and in 2023/24 will expand to work with 2,500 young people in 20 schools. Big Give donations will enable this, increasing access for those who need it most.
