Situation
In 2014, Bow Food Bank started supporting the basic food needs of now over 3,000 people in diverse East London every week. Since 2021, we have included period products as core essential items, which 72% of our clients now rely on. Without appropriate resources, people who have periods fall further into poverty, especially those from minority backgrounds - miss school and work, suffer isolation and stigma, and are prevented from effectively managing their health and wellbeing.
Solution
This campaign seeks to put the power back with people who have periods. Funding will enable them to lead productive, healthy, and active lives free from discrimination. It will provide essential period products for people who cannot otherwise afford them, raise awareness and reduce stigma, and link with local health authorities and other UK charities to ensure that our clients have access to appropriate information and care. The project will be directly informed by our clients and their needs.
